I know, I know… old. Whatever. Still cracks me up.

Hey! Vinyl’s back!!

28-04-08

…or so says the RIAA. From wired.com’s Listening Post:

According to the RIAA’s recently-released 2007 sales report, the American music industry sold 36.6 percent more Extended Play (EP) and Long Play (LP) records than it had in the previous year, increasing vinyl sales revenue by 46.2 percent. CD unit sales, on the other hand, declined 11.7 percent with revenue dropping 20.5 percent during the same period.

Well, what does that mean? If you read some of the comments below the piece on the wired.com blog, you’ll see the main point summed up: Statistics are Meaningless.

Yeah, it’s a nice thought, but the reality is that it just means there’s been a slight bump. Kids aren’t running around going crazy for turntables, and no one’s running out and spending boucoup cash on vinyls. I mean, some of my songs are on vinyl, and let me tell you, it’s a great feeling, knowing that around the world people still pick up these beautiful black discs. But at the end of the day, times truly are changing, and I personally don’t think we’ll be going backward anytime soon…

Adult Swim teams up w/ Ghostly

25-04-08

Ghostly Swim Cover

From billboard.biz:

Adult Swim, the home of shows “Assy McGee” and “Lucy Daughter of the Devil” on Turner’s Cartoon Network, will begin offering a free full length album download featuring artists from independent Ghostly International on Monday.

Titled “Ghostly Swim” the 19 track album will be promoted by bumpers shown during Adult Swim programming and at local events in cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Sponsored by Toyota’s Matrix the car’s logo will appear on the page where the music can be downloaded from adultswim.com/ghostlyswim

Just peeped it, and it’s DOPE. I love the fact that Cartoon Network / Adult Swim put these things together. I’d love to do something like this, so if you got any ideas, hit me up!!

Jelly Beats’ Studio

24-04-08

Gotta big up the man called Jelly Beats on this one. This is an older video that I remember watching, and, since I’m a bit of an audio geek / gear guy, I wanted to hit it up again. Jelly’s a fantastic producer (probably my personal fave out of the up-and-comers), and in this vid he takes you on a tour of his lab. Even though it’s not what you got, but how you use it, he’s got it AND he uses it. BOOM!

All Wave… All Analog Recording

23-04-08

Taken from breedersdigest.net

The “All Wave” philosophy, which loosely stated, is that everything should be an analog sound recording of someone playing or singing, rather than using a computer to generate or digitally manipulate sounds separated from the dimension of time in which they were performed. In short, to record All Wave one must use no computers, no digital recording, no auto-tuning, or any other mainstays of contemporary production.

Interesting, indeed. Although I personally could never do it (I love my digital samplers, digital synths, and digital, well, computer too much), I definitely think it’s a great idea. I like putting together concept records (*cough*watchoutforsomethingi’vebeenworkingon*cough*), and that’s really what this is to me. Even though the “concept” in concept records usually has to do with the music itself, this is more like a “concept recording”. I can dig it…

This track is GANGSTA!

20-04-08

I just peeped the new Prodigy track “Livin the Life” on Video Music Box on Channel 25. It’s from his new album HNIC2. I see the ads for this album every day on the train. Yo, all I gotta say is this track is SICK!! Queens all day!

Control-S Promo Mix

18-04-08

Yo, gotta big up my peoples Control-S in the place. These are 2 musicians that I’d love to work with someday. Both very talented and on a quick come-up. They’ve been working hard, promoting themselves with videos & great releases. Here’s a link (courtesy of Slick-N-Fresh) to their latest promo mix. Just downloaded it, and it’s a banger!
